Salt Lake Touristing

Dave says: When we decided that we would be moving to Arizona, we realized there were still some cool things in Salt Lake City that we wanted to see. We decided to spend a morning being tourists and headed to the Church History Museum where we saw a pretty amazing collection of historical artifacts. We also visited the Madeline Cathedral which is a pretty impressive structure.

We raced the Intermountain Collegiate Conference Finals out by Utah lake. With only a few women signed up to race, I convinced Alisha to race with me in the men's Cat 1/2/3 race. There were about 15 guys and the race quickly turned into a showdown between the University of Utah team and the CycleSmith team. We attacked and counterattacked each other throughout the race.

On the last lap, Alisha was setting tempo up a small hill and a gap opened up. I yelled at Alisha to go for it. At first the guys weren't too worried about her, but as the time widened, CycleSmith started trying to bring things back. This was a perfect opportunity for Mitchell to bridge up to Alisha. They stayed together until the finish where Alisha sprinted around him at the line to win the men's race. I countered a CycleSmith attack and made it off the front to finish 3rd.

Afterwards, the chief ref told Alisha that some dude said to her that "that girl" won't last a lap with the men. Hopefully he was there to see her win! We have a small conference and as a result I was able to win the collegiate overall for Men's A based on my performance in this and several previous road races.

How fun to tour where you live. I don't think many people take advantage of that. Richard and I sure don't and we need too.
