Time Flies

Alisha says: I was thinking the other day that time sure does fly when you are having fun. I recently returned from the San Dimas/Redlands double that marks the official start to the 2012 national race season. Although not all of it was smiles and giggles I do love traveling, racing, and meeting new people (we were treated to some exceptional hosts). It was great to reconnect with old teammates and bond with the new ones. Both races featured short time trials with climbing in them. These are where my best results from the two races came as I placed 8th at San Dimas and 6th at Redlands in fields of close to 100.

The day of the road race at San Dimas greeted us with lots of rain and wind. I think it was the worst weather I have raced in. Needless to say it was a bit sketchy at times and my mind let thoughts creep in such as just make it through this race as I began to shiver a couple of laps in and even shifting my bike became something that took great effort. All of our team made it through safely and were back to their chipper selves after a long hot shower.

A mechanical in the last stage of Redlands was rather disappointing. The course is very challenging and going into the day I was sitting in 7th in general classification. I made the split that happened on the first lap but a couple of laps later I was unable to shift into my big chain ring which caused me some problems for the rest of the race. But looking on the bright side of things after the race one of my teammates said "well at least you didn't crash" and later in the day as it poured rain during the mens race I was counting all of the positives.
